Cleaning Checks

I hate cleaning checks. They are the worst thing ever created since . . . the other worst thing ever. You can take your pick as to what that actually is.

Becky and I recently moved into her mom and dad's house, and since we had been renting, now we are working on the cleaning check stuff. It's been a drama.

Day 1. Last monday.
Had an appointment set up with Gina (the manager over our apartment) so she could check our cleaning. After she arrived 20 minutes late, she whined because the power was off (which I had told her about. She hadn't followed through on her end to keep the power and electric on). Lack of power did not stop her from whining about the stain in the burned crap that was there before we moved in, the baseboards that the owners hadn't cleaned when they moved out, or the drawers that we had already cleaned out. Though to be fair, we had forgotten to get some stuff out of one, so I'm glad she pointed that one out.

Day 4. Last Thursday

Called repeatedly. Left messages with the receptionist at the office asking about whether or not they had gotten the power back on so I could come and meet with her, but didn't get any calls back.

Day 8. Today.
Got a call right before my 11:00 class. Gina told me that they had gotten the power back on, and had the carpets cleaned, as per our agreement. Okay. She then began pissing and moaning about the burned stuff in the oven (probably smooth after Becky cleaned the oven when we moved out), and the drawers. Also complained to me about the drawers. Things like "There was toothpaste in one of the drawers," "There is toothpaste in the sink," (that's not toothpaste, it's silicon that the owners used to seal the tile) and my favorite, "There was a hair in one of the drawers." I'm not kidding. If I wasn't so pissed, I would have laughed at her.

So, despite having absolutely no time in which to do any cleaning in a place we don't live anymore, I now have to go after class and get the key to go clean. Becky has a class for her GT endorsement, so I am going to be working on a fairly tight schedule. I am going to try to get a detailed list of things that they're whining about, rather than a vague idea of what they're whining about. That way, I can check stuff off, and they are stuck with what they told me to do. I am beginning to wonder if they are just trying to screw us.

The problem is this: When an apartment manager or a landlord (for the most part) is getting a check everymonth, they don't really care what you're doing. You try to keep everything up, and check everything with them. You jump through all their hoops, but when you are moving out and they won't get a check from you every month, they immediately find fault with everything that you've done during your time there.

I kinda hope she breaks her leg.
